Pacquiao: God’s mighty winner

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. PACQUIAO: CALLED TO SHAME THE WISE AND THE RICH: About 10 or so years ago, I received a call from an obviously young man at that time, asking my help so I would talk to the owner of the room he was renting in Malabon City in Metro Manila not to kick him out of that room yet, even if he has not been able to pay his rents, at the rate of P500.00 or so per month.

The young man, who introduced himself as Manny Pacquiao, said he was the boxer who was a ward then of a friend of mine, the late Rod “Ompong” Nazario. He said he had no money, and that on top of his inability to pay his rents, he in fact couldn’t also pay for his food, constraining him to sleep on empty stomach.

GOD’S MIGHTY WINNER IN PROCLAIMING AND SAVING SOULS: But Manny said he would be able to pay all his unpaid rents if he won his next fight. I called the room owner, who agreed to allow Manny to continue staying in the room. From there, Pacquiao went on to become not only a great and wealthy boxer, but a powerful preacher of the Word of God, as well.

Indeed, God chooses the destitute to shame the wise and the rich, yes? As I was writing this column, it was a good two or so hours away from his Las Vegas fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and so I had no way of knowing whether he won or not. But, win or lose, Pacquiao is already God’s mighty winner, in the battle to proclaim His Word to save souls.
