LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long…” (Psalm 25:5, the Holy Bible).

RICH SINO-INDONESIAN IS VELOSO’S SAVIOR? What is this I am hearing that a very powerful Chinese-Indonesian businessman who has very huge business interests in the Philippines contributed to a large degree to the decision of President Joko Widodo to spare, at least temporarily, Mary Jane Veloso from the firing squad?
My informants told me that the businessman is among the closest friends and supporters of Widodo and that, it was on account of his personal plea with the Indonesian president that Veloso was not included in the executions on Wednesday, April 29, 2015. Now, please someone tell me, why did the businessman want Veloso spared?
Was it to show Filipinos that this businessman cares for us? That he and his businesses can be trusted to help our country and our people in their times of need? That because of his vast wealth, he is in a position to respond to pleas for help from the people whose patronage form the base of his financial empire in the Philippines? And why would this businessman want to do that?

CREDIT-GRABBING SHOULD STOP: This credit-grabbing on the exclusion of Veloso from the firing squad should stop. If the truth be told, there could have been no one single person or entity that could claim sole credit for Veloso’s miraculous escape from death.
The credit should really go to God, and to no one else, for it was He who touched the heart of Widodo and other Indonesian officials to allow Veloso temporary reprieve. In fact, even those who chose to confer with Widodo during the minutes leading to her aborted execution could not have acted on their own decision alone.
I am sure they were impelled by God to help Veloso, in His own time and for His own purposes. Indeed, it is only God who is our Savior. In Isaiah 43:11, God stated: “I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior.” In Isaiah 45:21, He reiterated: “And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me…”

VELOSO RECRUITER MAY BE EXTRADITED TO INDONESIA: Significantly, there is an existing extradition treaty between the Philippines and Indonesia. As we all know, an extradition treaty allows a country, like the Philippines or Indonesia, to request for the delivery to them of any person accused of a crime committed in their respective territories for trial and punishment.
In the case of the supposed recruiter of Veloso, since there is talk that this recruiter actually was the one who provided the suitcase which contained the illegal drugs that Veloso transported to Indonesia and for which she was arrested and sentenced to die, it can happen that Indonesian authorities may want to ask for the extradition of the recruiter.
If this happens, the recruiter may have to be brought to Indonesia and tried in their courts. If Veloso confirms that the suitcase containing the illegal drugs came from the recruiter, it may set her free, but in turn set up the recruiter for a similar firing squad penalty later.
