LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… Righteousness guards the person of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner…” (Proverbs 13:6, the Holy Bible).

CLAMOR ERUPTS VS. “CORRUPT” APPEALS JUSTICE: Will the Supreme Court and the Judicial and Bar Council be prompted now to investigate reports that decisions, temporary restraining orders, and writs of injunction are being sold to highest bidders by some justices of the Court of Appeals, in view of a clamor for such an investigation from a big consumer group?
I hope the tribunal and the JBC, both under Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Aranal Sereno, will be compelled to order the probe, as soon as possible. As it is, the allegations are now the talk of the town, and threaten to mar Sereno’s efforts to cleanse the judiciary of misfits and the corrupt.
Why, the disclosures of the Coalition of Filipino Consumers, through its spokesman Perfecto Tagalog, about the supposed wrongdoings at the Court of Appeals did not only dovetail with what reporter Daxim Lucas wrote for a big newspaper last week, but even contained more details, allegedly coming from another incumbent appeals justice! Indeed, Sereno, the Supreme Court, and the JBC must investigate these accusations right away!

THE TRUE STORY OF THE GODLY THIEF, PART III: This is the third part of the six-part short story entitled “The true story of the godly thief”: As he sat at the back of the cart of Joseph and Mary once again, he saw a boy much younger than him, cradling a feebly-crying young girl in his arms. They were barely clothed, and looked as hungry and as thirsty as he was. He sensed the two were brother and sister, and, like him, no longer had parents to care for them.
He also came to know that the two had not eaten even a morsel since a day or two ago. Instantly, he knew deep in his heart he had to do something to help the boy with the young girl. Forgetting his own hunger, he just felt that the younger boy and his sister must have to eat and drink.
Slowly he got up, and surveyed the stalls filled with bread and fruits in front of him. He saw one whose owner was fat and obese, and who had to sit all the time at his folding chair, even as he tried to manage his wares. This stall was where he was to get the bread and the fruit for the hapless siblings.

NOT WANTING TO BE INVOLVED WITH THE POOR: The boy approached the stall of the obese owner. As he stood at one end of the stall, his chest started beating wildly. He knew that he would be severely beaten, imprisoned even, if he was caught taking any item from the stall. That would in effect be cheating, even if he was doing it to rescue a young boy and his young sister from hunger and thirst.
He knew, in his youthful mind, that he could even be sold as a slave to unknown foreigners, and then transported to unknown destinations, never to return to Israel again. Yet, every time he looked at the boy with his young sister, he knew he simply had to give them something to eat, to snatch them away from starvation and dehydration.
It was clear to him that he had to do it, since no one among the market’s merchants nor any of the market goers appeared to have any pity on them. What is more, no one cared about what will happen to them. Everyone simply did not want to be involved with them… (To be continued; see batasmauricio.wix.com/kakampi-mo-ang-batas).
