THE TRUE STORY OF THE GODLY THIEF, PART II: We are continuing to publish here a six-part short story inspired by the Crucifixion and Death of Jesus on the Cross. The entire story deals with the legend behind the so-called “godly thief” who was crucified with Jesus on Good Friday. Again, reactions are welcome.

HUNGER AND THIRST IN SEARCH FOR JESUS: As a young boy of 12 or so, he was in the company of a couple named Joseph and Mary who had a son, also a 12 year old like him, named Jesus. Together with others from their town of Galilee, they had just come from a feast in Jerusalem, and were already on their way home, when Mary noticed that Jesus was not with them.
She searched for her son among their relatives, and among their town mates, but Jesus could not be found. Mary and Joseph then decided to travel back to Jerusalem to find their boy.
Unknown to them, the boy who was to become a thief all his life decided to join them in their search for the young Jesus, and rode at the back of their cart. When they arrived in Jerusalem, Joseph was startled to see him sleeping among their belongings. He woke the boy up, and asked why was he with him and Mary.
The boy answered he was already an orphan, no longer having any father or a mother, nor even a sibling, so he had no family to return to. He said he heard the news about their boy Jesus, and, without knowing why, he wanted to help in looking for him. Not wanting to send him away for he might get lost, too, the little boy was told by Joseph to stay close to their cart as they went around Jerusalem in search of Jesus.
As the minutes and the hours passed by and Joseph and Mary had not returned, the boy felt hunger pains gnawing in his tummy. Indeed, it was long past breakfast time, and he hadn’t eaten anything for breakfast yet.
His longing for food increased all the more as he gazed upon the rows and rows of freshly-baked bread, and sweet-smelling apples and oranges, and the other newly-harvested fruits that were already on display almost everywhere at that time of the morning, already awaiting buyers.
He was hungry and thirsty, yet he had no money to buy something for him (To be continued).
